Greece offers an infinite choice of itineraries. This is mostly because of the large number of islands and the short distances between them which almost no other cruising ground in the world can boast.
Greece's 1,400 islands are organized into regions.
THE IONIAN ISLANDS
West of the mainland. They are called "Green Islands" featuring the abundance of vegetation.
They are seven
main islands that are different from other islands by their fertile land (blanketed with olive groves sustained by the winter rains) and clear blue waters. These islands are known for their beautiful beaches, their charming villages and
their verdant landscapes.
- Corfu
- Paxos
- Antipaxos
- Lefkas
- Ithaca
- Kefalonia
- Zakynthos
All other groups are found in the Aegean Sea to the east of the mainland.
THE SARONIC ISLANDS
The Saronic Islands lie closest to Athens. This group of Greek Islands is composed of Angistri, Aegina, Methana, Poros,
Salamina, Spetses and Hydra and they have a lot to offer to the visitors:
natural beauty, clean sandy beaches and even small deserted islets to
explore.
THE CYCLADES ISLANDS
The Cyclades Islands
are in the central Aegean, beyond the Northern and Eastern Aegean Islands.
The Cyclades are the most famous of all Greek islands with Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Folegandros,
Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Serifos, Sikinos, Sifnos, Syros and
Tinos.
THE DODENCANESE ISLANDS
The Dodecanese Islands
are in the southeast. They lie in a crescent chain down the Asiatic Turkish coast curving west towards Crete.
The islands are for the most part bare of vegetation. Several of the islands with abundant natural springs, notably Kos and Rhodes, are relatively green and wooded.
THE SPORADES ISLANDS
Sporades Islands
are scattered north of Evvoia. This island chain lies off the eastern shore of mainland Greece and consists of 11 islands of
which only 4 are inhabited: Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos and Skyros. These Greek islands are characterized by dense vegetation and mountainous
terrain and are world known as some of the bluest and cleanest seas one will
ever come across.
